Lake George
Just 30mins from Canberra off the Federal Highway, Lake George, when full, is the largest expanse of fresh water in Australia. It is a place of mystery as it only fills once every 10 years and no one knows why. The basement of an escarpment to the western side of the lake is home to some of Canberra’s finest premium wineries.
Lerida Estate
Jim Lumbers has a dream: to create the world's finest Pinot Noir. Jim and his wife Anne came closer to realising this dream by creating Lerida Estate in 1997, complete with a Glenn Murcutt-designed winery.
On fertile slopes overlooking Lake George, the site was chosen as it resembled some of the great Pinot Noir growing areas of France, and for each vintage, they employ a young French winemaker to assist their own winemaker in creating outstanding wines.
Also the home of 26 Pétanque courts, you might say The 'French Connection' is alive and well at Lerida Estate!
While at the winery don't forget to visit Cafe Lerida and try some of Anne's delicious homemade scones, seasonal local produce and superb espresso coffee.
